At The Bar with Singer Bonnie Anderson

When former Neighbours actress and singer/songwriter Bonnie Anderson tied the knot with husband Sam Morrison last year, they chose two Victorian wineries for the celebratory moments. The formal ceremony was held at Acacia Rice Vineyard in the Yarra Valley late last year, while pre-wedding festivities took place at Anderson’s favourite spot on the Mornington Peninsula – Jackalope Hotel.

The singer who had vocal surgery recently, returns to her love of making music with a new single Bad Advice. She spoke to The Write Drop for our At The Bar series.

MY CITY

Melbourne, I adore everything about Melbourne, the people, the atmosphere, the crazy weather mood swings and all. It’s always home to me and I have a wonderful life here.

FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY

Family dinners are my favourite. When we have a delicious spread that my Mum makes at home and the family are together, they’re the best.

FAVOURITE BAR

‘Ines Wine Bar’ on Chapel Street in Windsor.  I go here with my girlfriends for their delish cocktails, food and catch ups. It’s such a stunning and moody vibe, which I love.  Everything about it is gorgeous.

DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU

Spicy Margarita, it’s got a bit of a kick, it’s fun and it’s cheeky. I feel like this drink describes me best.

BEST HANGOVER CURE

I always have a Coca Cola and Hydralyte, some Panadol and a big bottle of water before bed always helps too.

FAVOURITE WINERY

I love Jackalope, down on the Mornington Peninsula. It’s a favourite for a few reasons, but the main is that I had my pre-wedding celebrations at this winery.  It was the perfect location to celebrate with my girlfriends and is beyond beautiful, the food is incredible too.

TELL US ABOUT THE NEW SINGLE BAD ADVICE

It’s about reflecting on the past and mistakes that have been made, and not letting the past or fears define me.  It’s all about my growth and journey over the years until now. Feeling content and in a really great place.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET BACK IN THE STUDIO

My husband and son have been the biggest inspiration for me to get back into the studio and be creative again.  I had a bit of time off between releases, but I enjoyed my time off and the stories and experiences I collected.  It’s just made me write better songs.

ON BEING A MUM

It’s the most incredible thing of all.  I love being a Mum and my son is like a little mini me.  In looks he’s like his dad, but his wild and free personality is certainly like me.  He is hilarious and I just adore laughing and being silly with him.  Having a son has been magical in the sense of re-living so many first experiences through his eyes.  I feel very blessed to be his mum.
