At The Bar with Richard Joseph

London based homeware brand Joseph Joseph, run by twin brothers and business partners Richard and Antony Joseph, have made a name for themselves building a design-led collection of cookware, barware and a plethora of other space saving trend-pieces.

With a combined background in Industrial Design, where form and function are inseparable, they’ve turned the everyday essential into something worth looking at. We’re loving the elevated bar essentials in the collection – from wine stoppers to citrus juicers and ice trays, bringing subtle coloured to the practical world of home bartending.

Richard Joseph speaks to The Write Drop for our At The Bar series.

MY CITY

London.

FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY

The Guinea in Mayfair, London. I had devilled kidneys for breakfast on my wedding day and it was absolutely delicious.

FAVOURITE BAR

The Tides Inn, Aberdovey where I always go for a pint of Guinness. My twin brother (and co-founder) Antony and I spend a lot of time in Wales with our families and friends, it’s a beautiful part of the world.

DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU

Vodka martini with a twist comes to mind. Perhaps as it could be comparative to our design ethos – it stands the test of time, is signature in style and offers a unique twist.

BEST HANGOVER CURE

Full English breakfast. You just can’t beat it.

BEST BAR AWAY FROM HOME

The Soggy Dollar, British Virgin Islands. It has to be their incredible rum punch – always drunk with feet in the sand, watching the waves.

FAVOURITE WINE

Barolo. I have many memories of long dinners with all our friends, enjoying great food, sharing lots of laughs and drinking this fantastic Italian red.

FAVOURITE WINERY

Madonna dell’uva, Piedmont – the home of Barolo. It’s a family run winery, and drinking incredible wine in Italy, surrounded by stunning landscapes is a special experience.

NEXT DESTINATION

Ibiza. A big group of us go every year with our kids and it’s always a lot of fun.

The new Space range by Joseph Joseph is a world-first design concept; how can we use it in our home bar?

Space cookware was inspired by wasted space and kitchen cupboard chaos, where cluttered pans easily scratch and damage coatings. We wanted to design the ultimate space-saving storage solution for professional quality, high performance pans, without compromise. Space is a world-first thanks to our SwingLock™ Technology – the folding stainless-steel handle mechanism – which is the first of its kind. It took over a year of engineering and we tested it to the equivalent of daily use for 20 years to ensure that it’s incredibly durable and made for the future. These pans are incredibly versatile, due to the materials used. It was important for us not to use traditional, and potentially toxic, non-stick coatings. Therefore, the range uses a non-toxic, non-stick ceramic coating for healthier cooking, and is compatible with all hobs including induction. This means that a variety of things can be made in the pans, and at varying temperatures, making them perfect for making garnishes and cocktail ingredients like compotes with even distribution over low heat, simple syrups or even toffees.
