At The Bar with Lauren Hutton Winemaker – Peter Lehmann Wines

Peter Lehmann Wines enters a playful era with the arrival of Barossan X –three new twists on classic wines led by young winemaker Lauren Hutton in the Barossa Valley.

Based in Tanunda, South Australia, Hutton is all about bringing an innovative approach to traditional winemaking; and attracting a new audience to the finished product.

From the Barossan X Twisted Shiraz [RRP $23]– this wine is all about embracing a medium ruby-red grape with crimson hues and a fragrant mix of cherry, Turkish Delight and ripe dried fig.

Barossan X Daring Shiraz [RRP $23] a dash of Montepulciano; aromas of blueberry, plum and dark fruits with a violent spice for a full-bodied approach.

Barossan X Radical Shiraz [RRP $23] – a splash of Touriga – ruby red with a purple hue paints the picture here. Aromas of red plum, blackberry, sour cherry, and dried thyme rounds this out to be a medium bodied shiraz with a vibrant finish.

The Write Drop spoke to Lauren Hutton for our At The Bar series.

MY CITY

I live in Tanunda, the heart of South Australia’s beautiful Barossa Valley. Living in the Barossa brings the best of both worlds: incredible wines, stunning rural landscapes all while being incredibly close to some of the best cafes, bars and restaurants.

FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY

A tiny restaurant in Paris called Gusto. It was the first meal of my Honeymoon, and the atmosphere was pure magic, the Eiffel tower was lit in the background as we overlooked the city of love. We had the most incredible spread of clam linguine, caprese pizza and burrata all topped off with a glass of Chablis. It was one of those meals you never forget.

FAVOURITE BAR

Musque in Tanunda. It’s got a fantastic vibe, over 1000 gins behind the bar and the cocktails are top-notch. It’s the perfect place to unwind on a Friday night and enjoy a drink or two watching the bustling Barossa high street pass you by.

DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU

An espresso martini—bold, sophisticated, and always the life of the party.

BEST HANGOVER CURE

A greasy bacon and egg roll works every time.

BEST INTERSTATE BAR

Shady Pines Saloon in Sydney. Self-described as a ‘classic Nashville-style honkytonk’, its quirky design, and amazing cocktails make it an epic must-visit spot whenever I’m in town. It reminds me of my time in the United States.

FAVOURITE WINE

The Barossan X Radical Shiraz from Peter Lehmann Wines. Sharing a wine that you have personally crafted with your family and friends is such a euphoric experience. The Barossan X range is approachable and is a wine that brings people together.

FAVOURITE WINERY

If you ever find yourself in France, a must visit is Louis Brochet Champagne House. It is truly an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the small village of Écueil, the winery overlooks the gorgeous vineyards of Champagne. The stunning views pair perfectly with some incredible vintage champagnes, a personal favourite being the 2008 HBH Premier Cru.

NEXT DESTINATION

China is next on my travel bucket list. The rich culture, incredible cuisine and historic landmarks have me itching to explore this fascinating country.
