Actor and theatre star Hugh Sheridan returns to Adelaide for the Fringe Festival next month with a new show California Crooners Club; promising a night of music-theatre show stopping jazz hits.
The Adelaide born actor who is best known for his time on TV show Packed to the Rafters, calls New York home these days, but is back in Australia and making every moment count in the lead-up to his new show.
Hugh Sheridan spoke to The Write Drop for our At The Bar series.
MY CITY
New York City, it’s wild, it’s fun but most of all it’s home. I love the people, the rhythm on the streets, the art and the theatre.
FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY
The burger at Joe Allen’s. I think it’s safe to say the USA invented the burger, or perfected it, the burger at Joe Allen’s is indeed perfect.
FAVOURITE BAR
Marie’s Crisis, I’ve taken all my best mates, mates of mates, and I’ve seen it grow over so many years… it’s now a famous hub where superstars and bar folk get together and sing at the top of their lungs. It’s a heavenly dive with something so unique you have to fly to NY to experience it.
DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU
A gin martini with a twist, if you’re shouting me one I like it with Tanqueray. It’s smooth, chic and I could go jogging with it.
BEST HANGOVER CURE
An IV drip. Extra Glutathione is a must.
BEST INTERSTATE BAR
If in the US I love any bar in New Orleans, the cocktails are like Thai food in Australia, they’re perfect. In Aus, I love the Star Of Greece in Adelaide, it’s completely perfect from their cocktails, view and staff.
OVERSEAS BAR
Go to the Captains Lounge at the bottom of the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong, it’s like stepping into a different time and space, one I can linger in and have missed flights for!
FAVOURITE WINE
Wirra Wirra’s The Lost Watch Riesling. It’s one of those bottles that always seems to find its way onto the table when everyone’s together – its fresh, easy to love, and perfect for long lunches or relaxed dinners with family and friends.
FAVOURITE WINERY
Mitolo Wines in McLaren Vale is a favourite of mine when I am back home. I love that you can make a whole day of it, from the cellar door to different dining experiences on site. You can kick back at Frankie for a fun, relaxed meal, or settle into Little Wolf Osteria for something a bit more refined.
NEXT DESTINATION
Brazil or Egypt, I’m ashamed I haven’t made either of these places! I’ve only heard majestic things.
