Melbourne-based vocalist Georgina Docherty, who performs as Miss George, is best known for her jazz, blues, gospel and soul repertoire. She is performing at the Kew Court House Live in August with acclaimed pianist Mina Yu; blending jazz standards with pop and classical genres for an intimate one-off show.
She’ll be joined by Jonathan Skovron on guitar, Ben Charnley on drums and Hadyn Murtagh on bass.
Miss George spoke to The Write Drop for our At The Bar series.
MY CITY
Melbourne – because we really have so much available to us, from amazing food and culture to music and sport. Growing up in a tiny country town in the UK ,I can appreciate all of this and don’t take it for granted.
FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY
Centonove Restaurant in Kew; they make the best crab spaghettini and wonderful staff. It’s also very close to the Kew Court House.
FAVOURITE BAR
Bar Alba in Kew; I love a French Martini.
DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU
After a sophisticated glass of Prosecco, it would be a rum and coke., As an Aussie it seems you love it or hate it, but when I first came to Australia, I was introduced to it and stuck with it – it’s a very down to earth drink.
BEST HANGOVER CURE
Brunch at Baker’s Wife in Camberwell. I order a bowl of greens or avocado on toast. Add to that a big walk with my dogs and an afternoon nap and I’m sorted.
OVERSEAS BAR
Go into a local tiny bar if you’re in Paris. I had the best night at the start of this year with one of my sons while visiting Paris. We made friends with the owner at a bar near Place De La Madeline and had some good old-fashioned lock-in fun.
FAVOURITE DRINK WITH A MEAL
It’s limoncello.
NEXT DESTINATION
Japan for a holiday would be nice.
