Melbourne’s Italian pizzeria and cocktail bar Flour Child in Richmond – a second destination following its St Kilda spot – rings in the warmer weather with its Ciao Bella summer menu.
The inspiration comes from Italy’s southern isles – where citrus dominates the menu from Flaming Limoncello Prawns and Gamberi with Lemon and Pistacchio flavours, plus a Tiramisu that includes a hint of limoncello too.
“We have created Ciao Bella Summer menu to give you a glimpse of Italy’s eternal summer, where every meal is a celebration of life,” says Flour Child co-founder Simon Kouba.
“We’re not just serving you great food and cocktails. We’re sharing the warmth, passion, and spirit of Italian culture.”
Simon Kouba spoke to The Write Drop for our At The Bar series.
MY CITY
Melbourne is a multi-cultural, vibrant and energetic city and there is always something new and exciting to discover. The way this city celebrates food and bar culture is second to none.
FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY
It would have to be the filled egg net with spanner crab at Longrain in the city. Never disappoints and constantly delights.
FAVOURITE BAR
As a bar owner I’m a little biased. My favourite bar would have to be Flour Child without hesitation, and my second favourite would be The Valiant Bar in the city. Both venues do a phenomenal white chocolate and watermelon martini. We created this cocktail back in 2019 and it is still a crowd favourite. A mix of refreshing and fruity. SUPER YUMMY.
DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU
I guess I would be a chilli margarita. Always spicy and keeps people on their toes.
BEST HANGOVER CURE
Depending on the scale of the hangover but usually, an hour in the sauna, 4 litres of San Pellegrino, a packet of Panadol and a few hundred dollars on UberEATS.
BEST INTERSTATE BAR
The Ivy in Sydney is my go-to interstate bar because that was one of my first memories of a bar in Australia and it’s still going for a reason. The concept of a rooftop pool in the middle of the city is just amazing and remains my go to.
OVERSEAS BAR
Zuma Mykonos – you can’t go wrong drinking cocktails on a sun bed with an infinity pool and looking out to the Mediterranean Sea.
FAVOURITE WINE
A recent favourite is Chianti San Giovese. It was delicious and from one the best wineries in the world.
FAVOURITE WINERY
It’s actually overseas. Les Clos de Pauliiles. It’s a winery from my region in France, and is located on the beach.
NEXT DESTINATION
Europe 2025, going to take my Australian family for a reunion to visit my European family.
