TV presenter, actress, and entrepreneur Irene Jones gets paid to travel; and currently filming a new season of Channel 7’s Travel Oz. She’s also the founder and CEO of Travelglobe – further finding a way to combine her love of travel and creating genuine connections in the industry.
After losing her daughter Kaitlin at 24, she turned an inconceivable deep grief into a resilience that’s seen her find the passion to keep on living.
She spoke to The Write Drop for our At The Bar series.
MY CITY
Melbourne is full of the best restaurants, wine bars and entertainment in Australia. It’s a cultural melting pot with heart and soul that’s always willing to take risks with flavour in food and wine.
FAVOURITE FOOD MEMORY
Yellowtail in Las Vegas at the Bellagio. I ate an incredible tuna pizza made from a tiny thin crust of wheat crackers and topped with truffled tuna flakes. Ordering this by the Bellagio fountain on a hot summer’s day is a must.
FAVOURITE BAR
Yasei No Hana is my favourite cocktail at Nobu. It’s filled with sake, yuzu and vanilla. The top bar has a huge selection of incredible drinks and bites.
DRINK THAT DESCRIBES YOU
Limoncello spritz. Fun, tasty, tipsy and you can’t help but feel like you’re travelling when drinking it. Plus, it makes me climb trees and think I’m funny.
BEST HANGOVER CURE
Fries with lots of mayo and sauce and let’s not forget salt. Yum.
BEST INTERSTATE BAR
Saville Row in Brisbane – it has an old-school London vibe about it, with lots of sophisticated cocktails on the menu. You have to find the bar via its secret entry.
OVERSEAS BAR
Sips in Barcelona has such a cool vibe and a great reputation. Huge selection of cocktails and wines. Finding a great rooftop bar is my tip to secure great views and see the city with a drink in hand.
FAVOURITE WINE
I am sure I will be offending some but I love the Boy Meets Girl Sparkling Moscato on a hot summer’s day, with its fresh and not so sweet flavour and bubbles. A summer picnic, a balcony with views. It’s a perfect accompaniment.
FAVOURITE WINERY
This is hard for someone who literally works in travel, but I’ll be cheeky and say head to Europe. So many countries, experiences, places to see and hidden gems to uncover. The Greek Islands in life are a must, the Amalfi Coast is divine and the Highlands of Scotland in unmatched. Whatever you love, Europe has the answer in one of the incredible countries!
NEXT DESTINATION
Bali for our Bali Collective, which allows women to reset, refocus and give themselves power and a clear focus for the next chapter. The perfect place to recharge and regroup for what’s next.
